Why post this blurry ass photo? Because it is literally the photo I was taking as I fell off of this horse full speed legs in the air. He was sprinting to test me, I know it. I always wondered what it would be like to fall off a horse, for a moment to be tangled in his legs and to hit the ground hard. Now I know. But I must say, when I stood up, he was so embarrassed that I fell, that his whole body was shaking. Of course then my shock turned to pity and adoration and I nuzzled him and he cheered up and we were friends again. He turned his body to encourage me to hop back on, and then we rode off to the orchard to explore. #oregontopatagonia #argentina (at Club de Campo El Tipal)

Timing is everything. The day after my friends finished their leg of the journey and returned home, I was alone for the first time in 11 months. That same day, I launched my kickstarter to give me the ability to not only finish the trip, but move home and begin working on the novel I’ve always intended this trip to inspire. And BAM, in my solitude, so many of you believed in me and supported me and made me feel less alone, less isolated. I biked in strong headwind all damn day today, blasted Rascal Flatts and The National (an obvious coupling) to muffle my cursing at the wind, and thought about what a cool experiment this whole bike trip, Instagram community, sharing it all and chasing a big goal really is. So glad I’m not alone. #timingiseverything #oregontopatagonia #argentina (at Jujuy ( Centro ))

11 months of ice cold nights and camp fires and loud creaky hostels and a thousand faces who have never left home or seen a freak like me stroll into their patch of dirt and ask if I can camp with their sheep. I have kept hand-cramping notes in my journal of every half formed revelation as I’ve gone, promising my future self and all of you to write a damn good novel about being human and complicated and dedicated to simple things. I am so excited to get to writing… But I have the entire nation of Argentina, with all the beautiful people inside it that I have no idea exist but will change me when I do. 5 more months of sifting through the stories that fall into my lap, or rise mysteriously like the bubbles that appear from nothing in sparkling water, no matter how hard I squint, I can’t see their birth. And then there they are. #kickstarterconfessions #iamemotionallyexhausted #oregontopatagonia
